The event was organized as a meaningful commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW while providing students with an opportunity to practice empathy, generosity, social awareness, and respect for others. The activity also aimed to strengthen the relationship between SMP Islam Al Azhar 67 Yogyakarta and SLB Negeri 1 Bantul. These objectives were in line with the original event proposal.
The event was attended by approximately 250 participants, consisting of students, teachers, staff, and members of the Al Azhar 67 school community, as well as students and staff from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul.
All activities were carried out smoothly and according to the planned rundown, with no significant changes to the schedule. The program included an opening session, an introduction and performance session, learning activities on Braille and sign language, a school tour, a charity handover, and a closing session.
One of the most memorable parts of the event was the interactive learning session on Braille and sign language. Al Azhar 67 students had the opportunity to learn about BISINDO (Bahasa Isyarat Indonesia/Indonesian Sign Language) and ISBI (Isyarat Bahasa Indonesia), as well as basic Braille letters, directly through activities facilitated by the SLB community. They also practiced communicating with students from SLB using sign language, creating an engaging and meaningful learning experience.
The interaction between the students became one of the highlights of the event. Al Azhar 67 students expressed their happiness in meeting and getting to know the students from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul. Through the experience, they demonstrated respect, understanding, and appreciation toward their new friends. Meanwhile, the students of SLB Negeri 1 Bantul enthusiastically participated in the activities and warmly interacted with the Al Azhar 67 students.
The event also featured performances from both schools. Students from SLB Negeri 1 Bantul presented a singing performance, while students from SMP Islam Al Azhar 67 Yogyakarta performed poetry and singing. These performances added a joyful and collaborative atmosphere to the charity event.
As part of the charity initiative, SMP Islam Al Azhar 67 Yogyakarta presented several forms of support to SLB Negeri 1 Bantul, including basic necessities, Braille Iqra books, cash donations, and charity souvenirs. The donations were contributed collectively by the Al Azhar 67 school community, including students, teachers, and parents.
A total of Rp15,526,371 in monetary donations was collected. Part of the funds was allocated to purchase basic necessities for the charity program. In addition to monetary donations, the school community also contributed preloved items for the event.
The charity activity took place at SLB Negeri 1 Bantul, a public special education school located in Ngestiharjo, Kasihan, Bantul, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The school provides educational services for students with various special needs and supports their learning and development through specialized educational programs.
More than simply a charity activity, Maulid Nabi Charity became a valuable learning experience for the students. Through direct interaction, collaborative activities, and acts of giving, students were encouraged to understand that compassion and generosity can be expressed through meaningful actions and genuine connections with others.
The successful implementation of the event reflects the commitment of SMP Islam Al Azhar 67 Yogyakarta to fostering students who are not only academically capable, but also empathetic, socially aware, and willing to contribute positively to their community. (Refo)
